Mission & Vision
To change the future of patients suffering gastroenterological diseases by means of regenerative medicine treatment, comprehensively promoting the exchange of knowledge related to regenerative medicine, raising awareness of regulatory compliance (the Act to Ensure the Safety of Regenerative Medicine and the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act), supporting research and development, and cultivating human resources.
The Japanese Society of Gastroenterology has over 34,000 members and is the largest academic society in the sub-specialty area in Japan. Our subject of study, gastroenterological organs, possesses a variety of purposes and plays vital roles by linking and harmonizing with each other, regulating entire bodily functions such as digestion, absorption, and metabolism.
There are currently numerous ongoing developments to provide “regenerative medicine” solutions for the treatment of various diseases in which there is an impediment or loss of the gastroenterological organ function, such as “regenerative medicine mobilizing the functions of endogenous somatic stem cells,” “regenerative medicine through pancreatic islet cell transplantation,” “next generation regenerative medicine using pluripotent stem cells (ES cells, iPS cells),” and “regenerative medicine using tissue engineering technology.”
Additionally, it can be said that a unique characteristic of “regenerative medicine for gastroenterological diseases” is that diverse optional methods of treatment, such as endoscopy, laparoscopy, and surgery, exist.
Our Committee will wholly support the research and development of “regenerative medicine for gastroenterological diseases,” and, by further expanding the areas of research and promoting earlier stage practical application, provide a new method of treatment for gastroenterological diseases as well as engage in activities aimed to change the future of patients.
